A postcard photo of the home of Wiljo and Florence (nee Charman) Wiren on Reed Road, with Mt. Elphinstone behind. The Wiren and Charman families are longtime residents of the Gibsons Landing area. There is a lot of snow in this winter scene. Information from Bev Wiren, Arnold Wiren's wife: The photo taken in 1937 is of the house that Wiljo Wiren built in 1934 on Reid Road, two years after Florence (nee Charman) and Wiljo were married. They lived there for 14 years, so until 1948. The first two of their three children, Edward, born 1936 and Vivien, born 1938, would have memories of living at that house. Their third child, Arnold, was born in 1945 so was just three years old when the family moved to their second home, also on Reid Road. That house was at 1173 Reed Road and had been built in 1905. |
